Senator Hunt,
We have lived at 4525 Wood Valley Drive for 20 years and are aware that several
of our neighbors have already written to you about the NCDOT "paving" of Wood
Valley Drive. We have left messages with Brandon Jones and Reid Elmore at NCDOT
but they have not returned our calls.
Per the article in Friday's NEWS & OBSERVER, we are very grateful that Rep.
Marilyn Avila visited our neighborhood to witness 1st-hand the condition of Wood
Valley Drive. As she observed, the condition of the road is totally unacceptable
for a residential neighborhood like Wood Valley. In addition to the continuous
clouds of dust thrown up by vehicular traffic, it is unsafe to ride a bicycle,
push a stroller, run, or even go for a walk on this road. There has been a clear
negative impact on both the quality of life and property values due to the
irrational decisions by NCDOT. Wood Valley Drive was in better condition before
NCDOT performed their work.
We urge you to work with NCDOT to get Wood Valley Drive paved properly.

Paul, I have also contacted DOT for a response as to the plan to correct the mess
but have heard nothing. I will follow up today.

Paul, we have a response from DOT from our inquiries about the inappropriate work on
Wood Valley Drive. We don't think the response is satisfactory and Representative Avila
and I are currently investigating the DOT rationale for this type of road treatment.
